The exhibition presents works by artists revealing the trajectories of their artistic inspirations in their art and commentaries. Works by artists who refer to the works of other creators offer insights into the fascination of previously created art. The idea of the project is to identify not entirely obvious continuities, continuations and contradictions in contemporary artistic practices, which take place on the ground of dialogues with the discovered and revived tradition, dialogues that are developed in reinterpretations and polemics. The project also shows how the referenced traditions function within contemporary cultural narratives, their social and political contexts. The individual works show the transformation of what was the impulse for their creation through other media and its update in the context of artistic contemporaneity.

DEDICATIONS offers an opportunity to discover the sources and references referred to by eminent creators of contemporary art. The exhibition will feature the work of over a dozen artists who come from different generations and advocate different artistic beliefs. Their works show how contemporary art offers a reading of art history and how works from the distant and nearer past permeate contemporary art culture. The exhibition brings out the ways of reading art by the artists themselves, for whom reading the works of other artists turns out to be an inspiration for their own actions. It is not a question of showing dependencies, but of quotations in which the same thing is no longer the same. The exhibition will evoke works by Michelangelo Caravaggio, Marcel Duchamp, Eduard Manet, Ben Patterson, Francis Picabia, Alexander Rodchenko, Kurt Schwitters, Władysław Strzemiński, and Wacław Szpakowski, among others.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a film featuring the presented artists who will talk about their own motivations, reasons, and circumstances for creating their works.

Project co-financed by the City of Warsaw.
